Appropriate

By Branden Jacobs-Jenkins

Every estranged member of the Lafayette clan has descended on the mouldering family plantation after the death of the patriarch. Of course, chaos ensues as family skeletons are revealed. Clever dialogue, primarily unlikeable yet charismatic characters. The African-American playwright has written a play for white actors, that draws on a very familiar American type of play (think: August: Osage County, The Little Foxes; Cat on a Hot Tin Roof) and uses it to skewer America's racism past and present.
