Chile Con Carne
An uncompromising look at a Chilean refugee family seen through the eyes of an eight-year-old girl, Manuelita.

A comedy of errors: Martha, a teetotalling pillar of the church, is stuck with 143 cases of beer after a church fundraiser fails. She decides to bootleg the beer to the horror of her son who is a special constable on the reserve where they live. He is smitten with his "cousin". Martha's daughter is sorting out relationship difficulties caught between an attractive pow-wow dancer and her conservative common law husband.

Carmen explores her tensions between revolutionary and romantic love. She speaks from joining the underground resistance committing herself to the movement on the border between Chile and Argentina, a sexually passionate but emotionally impossible relationship and her quest to create space for self-love.
