Ottawa in the 1920's, pre-legalized birth control. A young working-class girl, falls in love with and marries a stable-hand. After 2 difficult childbirths, doctors tell her that she shouldn't have any more children, but don't tell her how to prevent pregnancy. When she inevitably becomes pregnant again, they face a grim dilemma.
