All the little Animals I have eaten

By Karen Hines

A thesis-addled, sleep-deprived film student serves local charcuterie to a well-heeled crowd at an unusually modern bistro. Over the course of a harrowing shift, she finds herself parsing some very female conversations about everything from plagiarism and polity to narcissism and killer-trolls, to spiritual transcendence and the Golden Retriever Convention in Scotland. The conversation does turn to shoes ... but it’s only when the food starts to speak that our hero really starts to listen.
