Whale Riding Weather
A love story in which a faded old queen finds his life slipping away from him along with his young lover, who meets a new, younger man.

We all have our demons, but Hannah’s demons have names and faces and they’ve got important plans. When Hannah agrees to a little weekend getaway to one of the Gulf Islands with her husband, she has no idea what lies in wait. From past lives to deals with the devil, “Lesser Demons” takes a comic look at some serious subjects. Family, love, creativity, spirituality and forgiveness weave through this story of facing our demons and the choices we make. Using symbols of spirituality and religion from the west and east with some psychology for good measure “Lesser Demons” asks what it means to ignore one’s creativity. Is creative expression a right, a privilege or a fundamental human need?

Poetic play in English and Tamil. The Sri Lankan civil war has left many scars on Thangan and his family, most noticeably the loss of his eldest son and the crippling epileptic seizures brought on by his torture. Now the family bears witness from their new home in Toronto. Thangan’s other son Kanan comes home from a protest, shaken that someone referred to him by his brother’s name. His young daughter Kavitha innocently dances around with a mysterious pair of anklets that she found. And Thangan’s wife Sevi is consumed with feeling responsible for her broken family. Amidst the ongoing trauma, the family is faced with the possibility of Thangan undergoing neurological surgery. Will the surgery heal, or will it cause more pain?
